A Zombie Apocalypse: The First 5 Things To Happen

An apocalypse is defined as an event involving destruction or damage on a catastrophic scale. How many movies have you watched concerning a Zombie Apocalypse? How many books have you read? From The Walking Dead to The Maze Runner Series, a wide range of entertainment has contemplated their version of what were to happen if zombies really started wrecking havoc.

If something like this were to happen, you’d like to know where you best chances of survival lay. And so I present to you The first 5 things to happen in a Zombie Apocalypse.

  1. Collapse of Public Order

Humans are humans. Since the Early Ages, our instincts have been to flee in the possibility of danger in order to stay alive. So, the first quite obvious thing you can assume will happen in an apocalyptic scenario is mindless panic all around. People will run from their into an indefinite direction in search of safety. Many, in this event will lead themselves into an ever more dangerous situation.

You can’t expect supermarkets and other shops to be supplying the latest zombie-slaying gear. In fact, you can’t count on them for being open at all, let alone stocked. Their will be raids, thefts and treachery. So stay prepared!

2. Rogue Rumors

Although not many people know this, rumors are actually some of the most dangerous things to go around in any apocalypse. Even today, in the face of a pandemic, we face more and more news every day, and our left to ourselves to decide how much truth they hold. And this is in the case where we have things majorly managed by government and public activity.

In a zombie apocalypse, you can’t expect the government to take responsibility for whatever caused the event or even how it had to be overseen.

So, false updates are capable of causing even more panic. I you would like to come out of this predicament alive, it would be very smart to not assume that whatever you hear is true. Unless you have seen it with your own eyes, or someone you trust has.

3. Burning Homes

As is well known, thanks to fore mentioned books and movies, zombies are afraid of fire and don’t dwell in bright regions.

People, in their urge to ensure safety and security, will most definitely consider setting their house on fire a rather clever course of action. And even though we do not know how much this action will help, looking out for buildings on fire is another essential job when it comes to living in an apocalyptic scenario.

4. Mass Migration

Assuming that the infection were to spread from a zombie to an unfortunate healthy person by bite, the infection rates will certainly not be in your favor. According to an actual study conducted by The American Physical Society, living in a large, populated city, you’re basically screwed if the epidemic hit in that region.

But, we know for sure that people will still try to escape to a less dangerous area, or leave the contaminated area entirely. Trains will be fully loaded, much beyond their holding capacity. But with time, the visits will be farther and farther apart in time, ultimately leaving deserted the unlucky ones. You’ll need wits and quick thinking to not be part of that specific group.

In any case, you can fully assume metropolitan and other populated areas like New York to be quickly de-peopled.

5. Endangering of the Human Race

Where do I start with this one? Another study calculated that a zombie apocalypse could literally wipe out the human race in just 100 days, under certain circumstances. As somber as that makes you feel, you can count on not the whole of humanity being killed/eaten/converted.

In fact, at 90% chance of infection, we can expect no less than 300 humans to be left on the planet in the above scenario.

But this being an extreme case, if you do find yourself to be one of the fortunate ones, remember! You’re one of the last and need to find a way to stay alive long enough along with your fellow survivors (assuming you are from the same countries) in order to save humanity from going extinct.

One of the best things you can do is move to a remote location with extreme climatic conditions, since zombies as well would not be able to survive in that situation, and would not be smart enough to stay warm or cool, I’d confidently say your chances of survival would be….. better than average.
